Meeting Minutes

Region 6 Show Commission Meeting - Forth Worth, TX
November 19, 2005

In attendance: Deb McGuire, Keith McGuire, Cheri Clark, Claude Clark, Dorothe Fisher, Christie Messer, Marjorie Pope, Heather Swanson, Nikki Stoffel, Val Stoffel, Linda Harrison.

Discussion was held regarding sending past regional exhibitors an email to see if they plan on attending Region 6 show in Brookings in 2006 &/or 2007 and if they would consider attending 2008 and beyond at the following proposed locations:

  1. Rapid City, SD
  2. Gillette, WY
  3. Sioux Falls, SD

Nikki Stoffel and Dorothe Fisher volunteered to get the email lists together and submit them to Deb McGuire, who will then get the survey together. Nikki & Dorothe will then work together to get it sent out and tabulate the results.

The five Region 6 bank accounts will be consolidated into one located in SD. The Region will apply for a credit card to allow payments to be made in a timely manner when needs dictate. Checks will be ordered for the General Funds Account.

Cheri Clark reviewed the list of officials and dates of the 2006 Regional show and pre show. There will be no Working Cow classes held in Brookings. Judy Kibler will be the Working Western Judge. There will be 2 tents. One will be a warm up arena (80' X 150') and the other will have additional stalls (approx. 50). Our contract is for at least 500 stalls available for horses and tack rooms. Pam & Rob Hess have requested to be our regional show photographers. Val Stoffel volunteered to coordinate getting ribbons and trophies ready.

Discussion regarding trophies for only champion or for champion/reserve resulted in the decision to have Mary Boden, awards chairperson, to look into awards for Champion & Reserve that would fit into the budget set aside for that.

Discussion was held regarding the new Sweepstakes program. It will necessitate adding 8 additional AAOTR classes, which will probably require us to rearrange class schedule. Some possible alternatives are moving some classes to Thursday & holding Trail classes on Sunday, if judge(s) can arrange their flight schedules accordingly. In the case of large AAOTR Sweepstakes classes, it was decided to split them if there are more than 25 entries.

Discussion was held about the videographer. Mr. Harvender (?) has been providing that service for years, so will ask him again. Question was raised about possibility of having organist rather than DJ type music. Budget may determine what can be done there.

Since show arena will be larger in 2006, it was decided to have a center ring for judges and ring help. Decision was for theme to be "Trail of the Painted Ponies." Christie Messer and Heather Swanson volunteered to decorate it to reflect endurance and competitive and pleasure trail.

Dates & facility for 2006 Reg. 6 Sport Horse Show are in conflict. Several suggestions were made, such as check with Dakota Dressage group to see if they would be interested in adding classes to their show or see if the Rapid City facility would have available dates. As a back up Deb will check with neighboring Regions to see if they would be willing to hold our show. Decision will be made after more info becomes available.

Respectfully submitted,
Linda Harrison, Region 6 Show Committee Volunteer
