Meeting Minutes

Region 6 Delegates meeting
June 26, 2010

The meeting was held in Rapid City SD at the Region 6 Show. Cecile Dunn Director opened the meeting with a welcome to all that was in attendance.  A clarification was made as to a rumor that had been started that the location of the Region 6 Show was going to be changed. It was made clear that the 2011 Show was to be held at Rapid City and that this was to be the site unless the financial situation of the Region was put in jeopardy by holding the Show in this location. At this time Cheri Clark the manager of the show has negotiated a lower price for the facility than the 2010 cost.  The next announcement was with regards to Mimi Stanley of Bismark N.D. She is a member of the ND Club and this summer was one of the four Young Riders selected for the 2010 Advanced Young Riders Program to travel to Europe for an intensive 10-day Dressage Experience. She needed some assistance financially with this endeavor and she needed some items…camera, lap top,to name a few. All Region 6 Clubs were ask to help. Never has any Arabian Rider or Arabian Horse been selected at this high level of Dressage for this type of international level. Please find more information about  our member on our Web site and look for the story that will be in the August issue of the Modern Arabian Horse. Our next announcement was about  Dr. Carlton Huitt our member from the Wyoming Club. Carlton has spent extensive time in Hatti and was there when the earthquake hit. Carlton spoke to the group and gave some details about his work and trips. He brought an interesting DVD for anyone interested in seeing the story of his work in this devastated country.
Approval of the minutes from the Region 6 Convention in Reno in Nov. of 2009 were taken. These minutes are posted on the Region 6 Web Site for your information.

Cecile Dunn is currently serving on a committee that was appointed by the President of AHA to review the Regional Concept and Boundaries. This is mandated by the AHA Handbook to be done very 5 years. Data regarding Horse population an member population as well as events such as shows, rides, etc..is taken into consideration. Recommendations and findings are made to the BOD and a vote is taken to accept or reject. Over the past years the BOD has rejected any changes that were presented. It was made very clear by the members at this meeting that they do not want any changes to be made to Region 6. I will abide by that decision when the vote is taken regardless of the recommendations.
Reports from the Clubs present at this meeting were shared with the group. The number of members for each Club in Region 6 as of June 2010 are as follows: AHA of Nebraska 99  Trail CREWW (internet club) 17  Southern MT. 19  Wyoming 69  South Dakota 40  North Dakota 40  Tri Arabian of MT. 17   Montana AHA 108 and Minn-I-Kota 27.

Other Reports that were given: Trail Riding by Claude Clark. WE have a new venture for producing money for the Region. Claude is the organizer and Region 6 is the Sponsor for the FT Robinson Trail Ride. Formally this ride was sponsored by AHA and was a very popular event. The dates for the ride are September 15---19th 2010 at the Ft Robinson State Park near Crawford, Nebraska. Lou Roper of San Marco California will be giving the clinics and sharing his knowledge of Trail Riding, Training, and Horsemanship. He has a great reputation and spends a lot of time in Europe giving clinics. Claude is asking everyone in the region to support this important event.  Remember it is to your benefit to do so. The Youth Report was given by Kimberly Schmidt.  She made a plea to each club to go on a promotion journey to encourage the Youth members to support the Region 6 Show next year. This year our show had very few Youth in attendance.  The Region Show Report was given by Cheri Clark. First, and of great importance, was the fact that our numbers were up from last year. She thanked everyone who came as volunteers to work this years show. Many pitched in wherever they were needed and the show seem to run fairly well. Cheri thanked the Ranches of Cherry Creek for their generous donation and for their sponsorship of the Pizza Party for the Exhibitors.  Elise Ulmer was responsible for many things!  The open Working Western classes and especially for her dedication to securing a nice group of vendors for the show. She is always promoting this show and encouraging people to come.

Old Business: At the Convention in Reno Nevada Region 6 delegates pledged to donate $1,000 to the Patrick Swazy Scholarship Fund through the Arabian Horse Foundation. This money was to be by individuals from the various clubs. As of this date I have not received one single check for any amount. Please see that you meet this obligation ASAP. Larry Kineer who handles this Foundation has contacted me several times.  I am finding it somewhat of an embarrassing situation, to say the least, reports Cecile.  The Events Manual is in Draft Form for the Show Commission members to take with them from this meeting. Please read it very carefully and make any corrections you care to or suggestions you have. This needs to get back to me no later than September 1 so that we can have the Manual ready for everyone at the Convention in November. If I do not hear from you then I will assume you are OK with it to go as is. My sincere thanks to Dorothy Fisher, who gave hours of time at her computer to have this ready for us at this meeting.

New Business: Our election of officers for the next two years was held. The candidates were presented to the group by Mary Bowden, Chair of the Nominating Committee. (other members of the committee were Dorothy Fisher and Deb McGuire)  Cecile Hetzel Dunn for Director Cheri Clark for Vice Director Laura Lee Anderson for Secretary. The position of Treasurer was open but a candidate was nominated from the floor. Susan Haden, who is a member of the Wyoming AHA, and lives in Hot Springs S.D.  This slate was voted on and approved by the delegates.  Members present were in agreement.
